My name is Lucan and I use to be an international student but now I have been living in the UK for over a decade. When I moved from school to University and from University to a working professional. I discovered one of the great challenges in my adult life. Finding a place you can call home from a different city is super expensive, extremely time consuming and stressful. Just think of the UK train prices and cost of hotels.

I created LuxFin Properties to help students and professionals to find a place called “Home” without the high cost, stress and time while also knowing that the properties we deliver will be fantastic, reliable and trustworthy. As I too really truly believe the importance of a lovely home in a good area. Thank you for considering us and putting your trust in us.

Unsafe Construction

A Durham student was charged £2,000 for the water damage to a kitchen countertop on a Newcastle property. The countertop is improperly sealed and faces direct sunlight daily. After verifying with experts, it is confirmed to be poorly constructed.
First-Day Intimidation

An 18-year-old new arrival was ambushed on his first day while finding his accommodation. A large man blocked the only exit path and demanded money, saying, "I help you, you help me." The isolated location early in the morning left no witnesses or assistance nearby.
Student Robbery in on the way home

A Year 2 Business student was robbed by six people near accommodation in Rusholme, Manchester, at around 7 PM while returning from university. Neither the university nor the accommodation provider warned about this high-risk area.
Concealed Mold

A "seemingly fine on photo" property had black mould painted over in the storage room, which, combined with the dim lights, no one suspected a thing at first sight. Our inspection revealed serious damp issues that could have caused respiratory problems for our client with asthma.
House Share Break-In

An English teacher (a former university student during the incident) fought off a burglar with a tennis racket with help from two housemates. The letting agent never mentioned previous security incidents or the inadequate window locks on the first floor.
Building-Wide Water Problems

An Edinburgh property inspection revealed water damage marks in the corridor, indicating recurring leakage issues throughout the building. This evidence of poor infrastructure would have gone unnoticed in standard viewings focused only on the flat interior.

Student Robbery Hotspot - Wilmslow Road

Police reported a spike in robberies targeting students in areas between Manchester city center and Rusholme. According to Manchester Evening News (September 2023), a 17-year-old was arrested for robbery after being seen "acting suspiciously" near student accommodations on Wilmslow Road. Police have increased patrols to combat jewellery thefts targeting students in this area.
International Students Targeted - Edinburgh

A Chinese student was physically assaulted by a group of teenagers near Princes Street in Edinburgh (November 2023). According to reports, this wasn't an isolated incident, with many Chinese students reporting similar attacks including robbery, egg-throwing, and physical assaults in the same area. International students reported living in constant fear and avoiding certain areas of the city, highlighting how crucial location awareness is when choosing accommodation.
Drug Dealing in Student Areas - Newcastle

A suspected drug dealer was arrested in Jesmond, a popular student area in Newcastle, following a university-funded operation (The Tab, 2024). Police seized cocaine, ketamine, cannabis and £2,500 in cash. The dealer was reportedly using Snapchat and other social media to target students. Newcastle's universities have varying crime rates, with Newcastle University at 88.7 and Northumbria University at 274.4 incidents per 1,000 residents.
Three-Strike Burglar Targets Student Home - Durham

A burglar raided a student's home in Durham the same day she had been in court for a previous offense (Durham Police, March 2025). The thief stole a MacBook computer, wallet, and cigarettes after the occupant left a door unlocked. This demonstrates how criminals specifically target student properties where security might be less stringent.
Student Murdered in Accommodation - Newcastle

A Northumbria University student was found dead in his accommodation at Mansion Tyne in Newcastle (Northern Echo, March 2023). The case highlights serious security concerns in some student buildings, including inadequate visitor monitoring and entry systems. Many accommodations fail to implement proper security protocols that could prevent such tragedies.
Racial Abuse During Attempted Robbery - Newcastle

An international student working at a shop in Newcastle was racially abused and threatened during an attempted robbery, according to BBC News (February 2025). The student reported feeling "very frightened" and "unwelcome" in the city after the incident. This highlights how location can significantly impact a student's university experience.
Drug Dealers Target Student Halls - Manchester

Drug dealers were found handing out business cards near halls of residence at the University of Manchester (Evening Standard, September 2017). Students at Owens Park, home to 1,000 residents, were approached outside the main entrance with cards featuring contact information. Some dealers even provided free samples, targeting newly-arrived students who are unfamiliar with the area.
High Burglary Rates in Student Areas - Manchester

Manchester City Council reports that more than 1,000 student homes are burgled each year, with one in three burglaries occurring due to unlocked doors and windows. Their official guidance warns that "burglars target shared houses because they know there will be more to steal," highlighting that these properties are particularly vulnerable to repeat incidents.
